Open Play Returns

We are now adding back open play nights on the third Wednesday of every month and also on the 5th Wednesday when there is one. Newcomers are always welcome but if you are new to backgammon and don’t feel confident entering a tournament open play night is a great place to start.

For more experienced players take part in a chouette, or play head to head, either unlimited games or practice matches.

Live Play Is Back

I am a bit late with this post but we are back to live play every Wednesday at Rounding Third. We are starting tournaments at 6:30 pm instead of 7:00 pm. There are usually a couple of players at Rounding Third starting about 5:00 so come early for pre tournament play if you like.

As long as we have at least 4 players we are playing some form of tournament. We are experimenting with various round robin formats to increase the number of matches everyone gets to play during a tournament.

We are not keeping a leaderboard the rest of this year. We will consider what we are going to do next year when we decide on tournament formats.

If you are new to backgammon and don’t feel ready for touramant play come anyway. One of our experienced players will be happy to help you learn the game rather than play in the tournament.

Online Tournament Update

We completed our 3rd online tournament on Wednesday April 15th. Seven players participated. William Womack won the tournament with Chris Maisa following up last weeks win by taking second place. Starting last week we implemented a new format for the online tournaments using a round robin for 6 players or less and a group stage round robin with an elimination bracket for group winners for the final. You still are guaranteed 2 matches but are like to play at least 3.

You can see the full tournament format at April 15 Tournament.

Join us next Wednesday at 7 pm in the USBGF Playground room at Safe Harbor Games.
