Milwaukee Backgammon Club

Whether you are an experienced backgammon player or just learning the game you are welcome to join us to enjoy one of the world’s oldest and still most exciting games.

Our format is different than most clubs. Rather than playing single night tournaments we play a longer format tournament, each tournament last about 6 to 8 weeks. Tournament matches are 9 points, clock preferred. (If either player wants to use a clock a clock is required). The tournament format is double elimination, $25 entry fee. First place receives 60% of the prize pool, 2nd place 40%. 100% of the entry fees go into the prize pool.

This format allows for the longer matches. We try to complete each round of the tournament within a 3 week time period. This means that there always players available to play with newcomers or those not entered in the tournament. This can include head-to-head unlimited games, chouettes, and match play and occasional doubles match play. It also allows time for us to teach people new to the game.

We meet every Wednesday at McGinn’s, 5901 W Bluemound Road Milwaukee, WI. Our “official” start time is 6:30 pm, but there is almost always people starting play between 5 and 5:30 so come early if you would like to get in some extra playing time. When the Brewers have a night home game we play at an alternative site. If you get our weekly email announcement the alternate site will be announced there. Otherwise email us at info@mkebackgammon.org for information on the alternate site for that week.

In addition to the Wednesday meeting there is a group that meets for open play most Saturdays at Highland House 12741 N Port Washington Rd, Mequon, WI. Occasionally this group will not meet, or meet at an alternative site, so check with us at the email address above before heading out.
